Announcing TWO CONTESTS:

1. PROGRAM NOTES CONTEST

  1. Write Program Notes for the Colonial Symphony!
    Two winners - an adult and a student will publish program notes for works in our October 23, 2008 concert.
Students:  Submit program notes for Rimsky-Korsakov's Capriccio Espagnol
Adults:  Submit program notes for Stravinsky's Firebird Suite (1919)

Submission Deadline:  May 1, 2008

Judge:  Music Alive Composer-in-Residence Harold Meltzer

Submissions:  250-500 words

Announcement of Winners:  At the Colonial Symphony Concert May 10, 2008

Prizes:  Program notes published in October 23, 2008 Program Book AND two subscriptions to the 2008-2009 Season

WORKSHOP:  Harold Meltzer will present workshops on writing program notes.
The first workshop is on Monday, April 7 at the Morris County Library, 6-8 PM in the Public Meeting Room.  Other workshops TBA.
2.   2008 COLONIAL SYMPHONY
        COMPOSITION CONTEST

 

Prize:  $500 and Performance on December 18, 2008 at the Colonial Symphony's 

           Annual Holiday Concert

Eligibility:  NJ Composers Under the Age of 30

Composition: Designed to celebrate the December holiday season

Length:  Five minutes or less

Instrumentation:  Up to 2 2 2 2 - 4 2 3 1 - tmp+2 - hp - strs: 8.7.6.5.3

Materials:  Composer must supply all materials for performance

Adjudicator:  Harold Meltzer, Music Alive Composer-In-Residence

Due Date:  Postmarked by June 10, 2008
